Petition Title:
Save Panshanger Airfield
|
|
|

Location:
Panshanger, Hertfordshire, UK,
United Kingdom
Created on
4/13/2009
Panshanger Airfield is at risk of becoming yet another housing estate in Welwyn Garden City. This will mean destroying more of our countryside, endangering wildlife, increasing traffic, and putting stress upon surrounding facilities such as hospitals, schools and emergency services.
Panshanger is currently home to North London Flying School and Out of the Box cafe with plays an active role in many community events. With over 400 club members the flying club is also a base for pilots within the area to take to the skies and enjoy the hobby they love. Please sign our petition to show your support to the campaign against the developers plan for more housing.

We should stop building more housing till the infastuture is put into place
I are getting short of open space
this is the email i have sent to our mp and the developers please sent one too-
dear mr schapps,
i hope you are well?
i am writing to beg you to oppose the planned 'development' of the aerodrome into housing, like many families in the area we rent a small house but are so happy here because WGC espeically this area is unique and beautiful as im sure you would agree?
where we live i can take a short walk to (i)the playing field and playground (ii)the woods or (iii)the viewing area to the aerodrome which my small children love,im so proud and content to live in such a beautiful area and i really feel that houses can be built anywhere and this little corner is best left as it is?
the other point is that its truly a peice of world war two history even for a pacifist it is truly fascinating to walk around and spot various sights realted to the facility during the war and its previous incarnations ie as a gliding school.
many people of all ages enjoy a ramble or cycle through the many foot and cycle paths in the area more of which i discover every time i go out and its such a safe, clean, quiet and green area and we wouldnt want to be anywhere else and a large part of the character of welwyn garden city would definetly be lost if the 'development' goes ahead which brings me to my next point....
hatfield;with all the best will in the world it cannot be said that hatfield any longer shares all the positive characteristics of WGC mentioned already and the facts(reported every week in the welwyn hatfield times to name one place)speak for themselves. So, if the historic aerodrome and corner of countryside in which it sits is lost to housing surely this area would become just like hatfield?
what would i say to my little boy when he asks where the planes have gone?
as for the developers offering to eliminate plane noise, well i dont know anybody whos ever been bothered by it and its only in daylight hours anyway, who knows what kind of noise and problems a new development would bring?we'd rather things stay as they are.
being a Brookmans Park man yourself you obviously appreciate a balanced, quiet approach to life and this is what our little area of panshanger offers and i beg you to help it remain so.
dont destroy the airfield, where else will i learn to fly? elstree?!! no thanks. but seriously, its got so much history and doesnt deserve to be ruined by yet more houses....
We must all fight to stop our beautiful countryside from becoming an urban sprall, and do all we can to preserve our local heritage. Panshanger Aerodrome dates back to before WWII and remains an active and vibrant Aerodrome today. Why are these type of facilities always under threat from developers?
Say no to faceless homogenised suburban coma-town sprawl, and yes to fun and birdlike freedom!!!!!!
It seems the proposal is in direct contravention of the East of England plan stating no airfields would be build on.
Please keep panshanger 'as is'.
