I am starting this petition in order to draw the attention needed to keep children safe around unsafe water areas.  I have never wrote a petition before, so kindly bear with me.  There are at least 72 water areas in Wichita Kansas alone that are not gated accurately,  There have been several deaths related to the ungated bodies of water in these areas, and two of those were children.  One of these Children a little girl had drowned in her neighboring apartments pool, which was located next to a playground.  Another death was that of a little boy,  In his apartments ungated Pond.  The pond was a little smaller than a small lake, and the boy was found under twenty feet of water.  There is another location right by my own home that is a drainage ditch and it as well is not gated,  this location is not even 10 feet from a City Park.  This dangerous area actually has make shift steps leading down into the water way, almost as if inviting.  When I asked a Wichita Police Officer why this area was still open this way considering the park was that close he shrugged and replied, "It's part of the park and it;s scenery".  Our city is spending all of the tax payer dollars to fix the roads and we even have a brand new arena,  so why can we not vote to get these areas fixed, so that our children are safer.  I am not suggesting that this is a solution for not having to watch our children closely.  It is just that Children are very fast and can disappear in a blink of an eye.  So again please help to get this issue noticed and a possible solution to be made.  Your immediate and prompt attention is much needed.  After all children are our biggest strengths and treasure.
