Low wages are detrimental to many of the individuals, families, and communities that social workers and human services workers work with. We are asking for your help in creating awareness of this issue by signing our petition.
Why are low wages a problem? Why should we care? Under the current minimum wage of $7.25, a family with one full-time worker and one child would earn $13,920 annually, which is less than the official poverty level of $14,570 for a family of two. According to the Urban Institute, one-third of low-income working families do not make enough to cover the basic costs of everyday living.
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Pennsylvania Chapter, is able to elevate this issue and make it a legislative priority in Pennsylvania by making this an issue on their legislative agenda. By signing this petition, you, as social workers, human service workers, and allies, can help promote awareness for this pressing issue. Together, we can make an impact.

Please sign my petition also because it directly relates to your concerns. Because DSHS targets low income families for child removal and is supported by title IV funds, it is critical that this financial incentive stop being doled out to the states so that families in poverty are not unfairly targeted for govt interventions.
Social Security Reform is the name of the petition.
