The goal of this petition is to make it illegal in the United States of America, to rent a property that is behind on it's mortgage. 

    This immoral epidemic is crushing families, traumatizing children, and bankrupting our elderly population. If an individual or a  family has to move several  times in a year, the amount of unforeseen debt is a burden, not to mention the effect it has on school age children. As it stands,  in most states, there is no legal impropriety for the owner to rent a property even though mortgage payments are not being made. 

    Granted, our president has enacted a law to protect tenants, in that the bank will honor our lease, but is this enough? A tenant should be given the option to terminate the lease, compensated for damages, moving costs reimbursed, and the immediate return of the security deposit.  

This regulation of the rental industry could be achieved through a bill / law enactment, licensing / certification, or a mandatory proof / statement of the properties' current financial state be provided to the tenant or county on a monthly basis.
